Some breeds need more than daycare

Fitdog Sports Club _ Dog Blog _ Some Dog Breeds Need More Than Daycare

Working dogs were built to expend energy, work long days, and solve problems. So while socializing in daycare with buddies is fun, dogs that are designed to herd farm animals, track big game, hunt and trap quarry, and carry heavy loads are looking for more to do.

We’ve identified popular working breeds at Fitdog that we know are much happier (and less destructive) when given a diverse mix of activities and exercise.

For these high energy, smart breeds, we recommend three to five sports outings or classes per week. Owners immediately notice a difference in their dog. Not only are they tired, but fulfilled.

  • Husky
  • Boxer
  • Pitbulls / Pit Mixes
  • Rottweiler
  • Border Collie
  • German Shepherd
  • Australian Shepherd
  • Welsh Corgis
  • Samoyed
  • Chocolate Labs
  • Jack Russell Terriers
  • Terrier Mixes
  • Pointers

For these occasionally mellower working breeds, one to two sports outing or class per week could really make a difference in their personality and pep.

  • Black & Yellow Labradors
  • Spaniels
  • Golden Retrievers
  • Poodles & Poodle Mixes
  • Pomeranians and Pom Mixes

These breeds are typically perceived by dog owners as not needing addition activity, but they definitely do. As working breeds, even one or two days a week would make them much happier.

  • Corgis
  • Pomeranians
  • Rottweiler
  • Spaniels
  • Terrier mixes
