FAQ
If I have two dogs, can they stay together?
Of course. Small dogs have the option of staying together in either a Standard Den or Private Suite. Medium to large dogs can stay together in a Private Suite. You may also request that they eat separately, but sleep together.
Why don’t you have webcams?
Unfortunately, we are located in an area that only offers DSL internet service, and we are over 10 miles from the point of origination. In layman terms, that means we are unable to obtain the amount of broadband required to upload streaming videos to our webpage.
So then you ask, why not switch providers? Because there are no other providers that service our building (AT&T and Time Warner have no lines to our location). So then you ask, why not get a T1 service? For the amount of broadband that would be required, that option is not practical in terms of cost and reliability.
So now what? We are working to get Time Warner to lay cable wires to our building, however this could take up to a year. In the meantime, please trust that we are taking great care of your pup!
You require that dogs are neutered or spayed by six months old, but my veterinarian does not recommend it for my dog until he is nine months old. Can my dog still play since this is my veterinarian’s recommendation?
For the purposes of open play, we require that all dogs must be neutered or spayed by six months regardless of veterinarian or breeder recommendations. This is because we have found that dogs that are not neutered or spayed after this age cause significant issues in the play area which make the environment unsafe for the other dogs.
If you would like to wait to have your dog neutered or spayed, we recommend using other services like walking or pet sitting. For boarding, there are other facilities that are not open play, which allow unaltered dogs such as your veterinarian.
Is there overnight supervision?
Absolutely. Our Members receive 24 / 7 supervision. Our overnight staff are dog care professionals and take especially good care of our Members when they are staying the night.
Is there an age requirement for dog daycare?
Yes. Fitdog Sports Club requires that all dogs must be at least four months old. This is the age where your puppy will receive its final round of vaccinations including DHLP, Rabies and Bordetella. This is also a time where your dog’s immune system is strong enough that he or she will be able to safety hang out with all of the other dogs!
What if my veterinarian told me to wait until he is five months old to get his rabies vaccination? State and city animal codes require that we maintain proof of rabies for all of our dogs. In addition, it is unsafe to have vaccinated dogs in large groups. If you would like to wait to have your dog vaccination, we recommend other services such as dog walking or pet sitting.
What is kennel cough and should I be worried about my dog getting it?
Kennel cough, also known as canine infectious tracheobronchitis, Bordetellosis or Bordetella, is a viral infection that dogs can contract from other dogs. Symptoms include a dry hacking cough that many owners describe as having a ‘honking sound.’ A watery nasal discharge may also be present.
At Fitdog Sports Club, we take a number of precautions to help prevent the spread of kennel cough. Every dog is required to have a Bordetella vaccination every 6 months. Employees are required to use hand sanitizer and wash their hands frequently throughout the day as people can spread kennel cough by patting and playing with dogs. Our air is re-circulated 12 times per hour as recommended by veterinarians to prevent kennel cough.
Will my dog receive walks during the day?
Yes! Included in our rates, daycare dogs receive one walk per day and boarded dogs receive two walks per day.
What happens if my dog gets sick while I am away?
If your dog gets sick, you will be notified immediately. Depending on the severity of your dog’s condition, we will recommend a couple options that allow for your dog to continue to receive the best care.
